21-Day Fast, Day 8

In the late 1980’s or early 1990’s Pastor Edwards called for the church to fast from Television for two weeks. Iremember that I thought this is absolute nonsense. How can I possible do this? I have my baseball, football, and basketball games to watch. What about the news and the weather? I can honestly say that I do not remember if I was obedient to his request or not.

However, as the years have rolled along, and I have grown in the Lord to learn to respect the request of those thatGOD has placed over me in the church. Their request for times like these is ordained by GOD so that we as individuals and as a body of Believers will set aside all those things in our lives that we depend on and learn to depend on our Heavenly Father for everything.

It is the point of taking our eyes off the visible and looking for the invisible.

2 Corinthians 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

It is by faith that we see God, who is invisible (Heb. 11:27), There are unseen things, as well as things that are seen. There is this vast difference between them: unseen things are eternal, seen things but temporal, or temporary only.By faith we not only discern these things, and the great difference between them, but by this also we take our aim at unseen things, and chiefly regard them, and make it our end and scope, not to escape present evils, and obtain present good, both of which are temporal and transitory, but to escape future evil and obtain future good things, which though unseen, are real, and certain, and eternal; and faith is the substance of things hoped for, as well as the evidence of things not seen, Heb. 11:1.

Pray:

Heavenly Father, we ask You for strength to help us overcome the lust of our eyes and the desires of our carnal minds so that we can daily seek You and the invisible gifts that You have prepared for us before You laid the foundations of the Universe.

Amen
